Vatnsholt is a family campsite attached to Hotel Vatnsholt in the south Iceland countryside, about an hour from Reykjavík. Beyond the usual pitches and hookups, guests get the run of the hotel — restaurant and bar, a children's playground, football, billiards, darts and fishing. Open June to August.
Vatnsholt pairs a campsite with a hotel, out in the countryside of south Iceland about an hour's drive from Reykjavík. The camping side keeps it simple: electricity, hot and cold water, and clean toilets in a quiet setting to unwind in. The extras come from the hotel next to it. Guests can use the restaurant and bar, and there's a children's playground, a football field, billiards, darts, sports on TV and fishing to fill the downtime. The restaurant serves dinner in the evening, and the bar runs into the night with a daily happy hour. It works well as a base for exploring the south coast, or simply as a relaxed countryside stop. Drop-ins are welcome, and the season runs from the start of June to the end of August.
Book ahead in summer, especially near popular spots. Campsites fill up by late afternoon.
