Grótta Lighthouse
A 15-min drive west of downtown. Flat headland with near-total darkness to the north. The classic Reykjavík aurora shot.

Tips for this region
Drive 15–20 km out — Grótta, Heiðmörk, or north past Mosfellsbær. The city wash-out is real.
Check aurora forecast and cloud cover separately — Reykjavík has its own microclimate and can be clouded in while the south coast is clear.
Tour buses pile up at Grótta on strong nights. For solitude, pick Heiðmörk instead.
