Are these webcams really live?
Yes — each feed streams directly from the source (livefromiceland.is, lavacentre.is, skidasvaedi.is, port.is, visitreykjanes.is). We embed the same stream you would see on their own sites; we do not host or delay the video.
Why is a camera sometimes offline or dark?
Most feeds run outdoors year-round, so an offline camera is usually maintenance, a connectivity drop, or — for a few — genuine nighttime darkness in winter. Try again later, or pick another camera in the same region.
Can I use these to check road or weather conditions before driving?
They help, but they're a snapshot of one spot, not a route. Pair them with the live road status and forecasts on our alerts page before any drive, especially in winter.
Can I see the northern lights on a webcam?
Some cameras (marked Aurora) point at dark-sky locations and can catch the lights on a clear, active night. For an actual forecast by region, use our aurora forecast — a camera alone won't tell you if tonight is a good night.
