questions
How do I book a tour on Map of Iceland?
Browse and compare tours here, then hit "Check availability" on any tour — you finish the booking on Tourdesk, Iceland's local booking platform, with live dates and pricing. No booking fee.
Which Iceland tours are worth it?
The classics earn their reputation: Golden Circle and South Coast day trips, glacier hikes, ice caves (winter), whale watching (summer), and northern lights hunts (September–April). If you only book one splurge, most travellers pick a glacier or ice cave experience — you can't do those without a guide.
Should I book tours in advance?
In peak season (June–August and around New Year) — yes, popular glacier and ice cave tours sell out days to weeks ahead. Shoulder-season travellers can often book 1–2 days out. Most tours have free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure, so booking early rarely costs you flexibility.
Do tours run in bad weather?
Operators cancel when it's genuinely unsafe (storms, road closures) and you get a full refund or rebooking. Rain alone almost never stops a tour — this is Iceland. Check road and weather conditions on our live map before self-driving to a meeting point.
Tours or self-drive — which is better?
Both, usually: self-drive for the sights you can reach yourself (waterfalls, beaches, hot springs), tours for the things that need a guide — glaciers, ice caves, snorkeling Silfra, highland super-jeep terrain. Renting a car with our 12% KeyCar discount plus 1–2 guided experiences is the sweet spot.
