Map of Iceland collects minimal personal data to run the platform and send travel updates you sign up for. All data is stored within the EU/EEA, never sold, and you can delete it anytime by emailing info@mapoficeland.is. We are GDPR-compliant under Icelandic/EU law.
Who we are
Map of Iceland (mapoficeland.is) is operated from Iceland. For any privacy question, contact: info@mapoficeland.is.
Data we collect
- Account data (when you sign up): name, email, authentication provider (Google / Facebook / email).
- Usage data: pages visited, referrer, device type, approximate location (from IP), timestamps. We use this to improve the platform.
- Booking data (if you book through us): trip dates, preferences, contact info. Booking payments are processed by our rental/tour partners, not by us — we never see your card number.
- Email subscriptions: email address only, plus the source (which page or campaign you signed up from).
- Communications: emails you send to us are kept for support history.
How we use your data

- To send travel alerts and updates you've subscribed to
- To improve our platform — performance, content, features
- To process bookings and pass minimum-necessary info to partners
- To respond to your messages and support requests
- To meet legal obligations (taxation, fraud prevention, etc.)
Where your data lives
We use Supabase (database + auth, EU/Ireland region) and Vercel (hosting + serverless functions, EU-region edges). Both are GDPR data processors with EU-region storage by default. We don't transfer personal data outside the EU/EEA.
Your rights
- Access: request a copy of all data we have on you.
- Correction: ask us to fix inaccurate data.
- Deletion: ask us to delete your account and data — we delete within 30 days.
- Portability: get your data in a machine-readable format.
- Unsubscribe: every email has an unsubscribe link and works instantly.
- Complaint: you can complain to the Icelandic Data Protection Authority (Persónuvernd) if you think we're mishandling your data.

Cookies
We use only essential cookies (login session, language preference) and basic analytics. We do not run third-party advertising trackers. Specifically:
- Login cookies: keep you signed in. Required for account features.
- Analytics: anonymous usage stats (Google Analytics 4, IP-anonymised). Helps us understand which pages are useful.
Changes to this policy
If we change anything material, we'll email subscribers and update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
