These routes are fully paved year-round. Any car works, including economy vehicles. Save money and go compact.
Snæfellsnes, Westfjords, winter anywhere
Gravel roads and winter conditions require higher clearance and better traction. You need a 4WD vehicle for safety and insurance coverage.
Landmannalaugar, Askja, Kjölur
F-roads are unpaved mountain tracks with river crossings. You MUST have a 4WD vehicle. It is illegal to drive a 2WD on F-roads.
