Westfjords tonight
Remote, low light pollution, and genuinely empty skies. The drive is the cost. The sky is the payoff. Plan a 3–4 night trip — the weather can lock you in for a day.
Where to watch in Westfjords
Dynjandi waterfall plateau
Iceland's largest waterfall in the Westfjords. The open plateau above the falls gives an unobstructed dome of sky. Cold and exposed — bring everything.
Ísafjörður harbour mouth
Drive to where the fjord opens to the sea. The town lights drop away fast and you have 180° of northern sky. Much less wind than the ocean headlands.
Látrabjarg cliffs road
Europe's westernmost point. The cliffs look north over open Arctic Ocean. Utterly dark sky — almost no artificial light in any direction.

Tips for this region
The Westfjords have the best dark sky in Iceland outside the Highlands. Even Kp 2 produces strong overhead displays.
Plan 3+ nights — weather windows in the Westfjords are shorter and more unpredictable than elsewhere.
The Ring Road does NOT reach the Westfjords. Route 60/61 is your entry — check tunnel schedules at vegagerdin.is.
The Westfjords are worth it. A 4WD gets you everywhere.
Some roads require high clearance in winter. Book a 4WD and plan fuel stops — petrol stations are sparse. Code mapoficeland saves 15% on KeyCar.
