Flúðir
About
Flúðir Camping Centre opened in 2009 on the banks of the Little Laxá, about 100 km from Reykjavík in a farming district known as Iceland's food basket. Free Wi-Fi, big barbecue areas, playgrounds, and a shop for camping bits. Gullfoss and Geysir are a short drive. Open May to September.
Flúðir Camping Centre has been going since 2009, laid out along the Little Laxá River. The surrounding district is greenhouse country — so much so that it's nicknamed Iceland's food basket — and sits just over 100 kilometres from Reykjavík. The site handles tents, caravans and motorhomes across several service buildings with toilets, showers and laundry. Its shop stocks ice cream, drinks, charcoal, gas refills and the usual camping odds and ends, plus South Iceland travel info. Expect free Wi-Fi, large barbecue areas, playgrounds, and water and power across most pitches. The village is walkable — grocery shops, restaurants, a bar and a swimming pool — and Gullfoss and Geysir are close by. Solo campers must be 25 or older. Open May to September.
Book ahead in summer, especially near popular spots. Campsites fill up by late afternoon.
