Úthlíð spreads out on a hillside below Réttin Restaurant, right in the middle of the Golden Circle. That location does a lot of the work: Geysir is 10 km away and Gullfoss 20 km, so the loop's main sights are an easy morning. It's open year-round, which is rare here. The camping fee includes showers, hot tubs and warm indoor space for dining and washing up; a washing machine and dryer cost extra. Guests can wander over to Réttin for a meal, free Wi-Fi and sport on the big screen. There's a 9-hole golf course, horse rentals and cottages on site too. In winter the area takes motorhomes and campers, and the dark skies make it a decent spot for the northern lights. Quiet hours start at 23:00.
