Skjól Camping sits between Gullfoss waterfall and the Geysir hot spring — hard to beat for location on that stretch. It's a large site with electricity and free Wi-Fi, plus an on-site bar, coffee house and a big trampoline for kids. Horse rental and a golf course are close by.
Between hikes there's more to do here than at most rural sites. A building on the grounds holds a bar and coffee house, the restaurant serves over lunch and again in the evening, and a large trampoline has become a hit with younger campers. The setting is the real headline, though — you're parked squarely between Gullfoss and Geysir, two of the area's best-known sights. Laugarvatn and the Kerlingarfjöll highlands are within reach, and there's horse rental on the neighbouring farm plus a golf course close by. The site is large, with electricity and free Wi-Fi, and offers sleeping-bag accommodation if you're travelling light. Children stay free.
Wild camping rules have tightened. Use designated campsites to stay on the right side of the law.
