Hamragarðar

Hamragarðar's biggest asset is its neighbours: the waterfalls Gljúfrabúi and Seljalandsfoss are right there, about two kilometres north of Route 1. Gljúfrabúi sits tucked in beside the site, and a path along the river lets you reach it while mostly staying dry — or wade in, if you'd rather. The campsite splits into an upper and a lower area. The lower service house has toilets, washing machines and cooking facilities; the upper house has toilets and showers. A slide and a swing sit by the service house. For a longer stretch of the legs, the small hill of Fagrafell gives a good view over the Eyjafjöll mountains. It's a strong base for this waterfall-heavy corner of the south coast.

Wild camping rules have tightened. Use designated campsites to stay on the right side of the law.
