Hellishólar, Fljótshlíð

Hellishólar packs a lot onto one site in Fljótshlíð, ten kilometres or so from Hvolsvöllur. Alongside the pitches there's a 9-hole golf course called Þverárvöllur, a football field, hot tubs, and the Hygge restaurant and bar open daily. Families get a big playground with trampolines, swings, and slides. There's also a hotel and cottages on the grounds. Two rules stand out. It's a book-first site — you sort availability and payment before setting up. And the minimum age for camping is 25, unless you're travelling as a family. The site stays open all year. In winter only Zone G is used, next to reception, with free toilets and showers in the bathhouse and the restaurant open in the evenings. Note there's no communal kitchen for campers.
