A geothermal area in the highlands famous for its colorful rhyolite mountains and natural hot pools. The water is heated by the earth, mixing with cold streams for a perfect bathing temperature.
Sitting in a natural hot stream while looking at rainbow-colored mountains. Hissing steam vents nearby. Rugged landscape in every direction. This is wild Iceland at its finest.
The colorful mountains are made of rhyolite — volcanic rock that creates reds, yellows, greens, and blues through mineral content. The area has been a traveler's rest stop for centuries.
Requires F-road access (4x4 or bus). The natural hot pool is free but basic — no facilities. Find your perfect temperature where hot and cold streams mix. The Laugavegur trail starts here.
