Tjaldsvæðið Borgarfirði eystri
Tjaldsvæðið Borgarfirði eystri
About
Borgarfjörður Eystri's campsite lies at the foot of Álfaborg, the elf rock of local folklore, in East Iceland. It spreads over three grass fields and two gravel patches with 40 hookups, minutes from the Hafnarhólmi puffin colony. A free disc golf course runs right behind it. Open May to September.
The campsite sits at the base of Álfaborg, the rocky hill that local folklore names as the home of Iceland's elves. Paths lead around it and up to the top, where the views open out. Right behind the site is a free disc golf course, with discs to borrow at reception. There's plenty of room: three big grass fields plus two gravel patches, and 40 power hookups. Two service buildings handle the rest — one with toilets, accessible facilities, and showers; the other with a dining area, cooking facilities, and a communal room that keeps a small library and board games. A few minutes away is Hafnarhólmi, one of Iceland's largest and most reachable puffin colonies. The Álfacafé sits across the road, with shops and restaurants a short walk off. The season runs early May to late September.
Book ahead in summer, especially near popular spots. Campsites fill up by late afternoon.
