About
Skipalækur camps you on the edge of Fellabær, on rocky ground with a view over the Lagarfljót river. Five toilets, four showers, a heated lounge with cooking facilities and covered spots to eat make it comfortable in any weather. Electric hook-ups are available. Open from early June into October.
Rain won't strand you here. Two small lounges let you eat packed meals under cover — with sockets to charge a phone or laptop — and a newer heated service building adds cooking facilities, washing machines and dryers. There are five toilets, four showers and step-free access that the new building much improved. The setting is quiet and rocky on the outskirts of Fellabær, looking out over Lagarfljót. Close by you'll find a nine-hole golf course, the bathing spot at Lake Urriðavatn, Vök Baths, trout fishing and horse rentals. For day trips, Hengifoss is 33 km away and Stuðlagil canyon 69 km. Borgarfjörður Eystri, where puffins nest at Hafnarhólmi, is about 73 km. The season opens on 8 June and runs into October.
Book ahead in summer, especially near popular spots. Campsites fill up by late afternoon.
