Egilsstaðir
About
Open all year in the centre of Egilsstaðir, East Iceland's main service town, this campsite runs a 24/7 building with a big shared kitchen and a laundry room of nine washers and nine dryers. Shops and restaurants are a short walk; the pool and a jumping pillow are a kilometre away.
Egilsstaðir is the commercial hub of East Iceland — about 2,300 people, the region's largest town — and the campsite sits centrally beneath a cliffside, minutes from the shops and restaurants. The service building never closes. Inside is a kitchen with eight stovetops plus microwave, toaster and kettle, and a round-the-clock laundry — nine washing machines, nine dryers. There are seven showers, fourteen toilets, a lounge with sofas, and vending machines for drinks. In summer, reception runs 07:00 to 23:00. A jumping pillow and the town pool are a kilometre off, and the Vök Baths are about four kilometres away. The town makes a solid base for the wider east — you can head out for the day and come back to plenty of places to eat. Booking ahead is possible.
Wild camping rules have tightened. Use designated campsites to stay on the right side of the law.
