Svartiskógur is a small woodland campsite at Jokulsarhlid in East Iceland, beside Hotel Svartiskógur about 8 km off Route 1 along Route 917. It suits tents and trailers, solo travellers or groups, and has showers, toilets, and hot and cold water. A quiet base for touring the eastern fjords.
Set in a small forest at Jokulsarhlid, this is a quiet, unfussy site — a good place to pitch a tent or park a trailer, solo or in a group, and let the calm of the woods do its thing. Getting there is simple: leave Route 1 for Route 917 and carry on about 8 km to the crossroads, where you'll find it next to Hotel Svartiskógur. Location is its strong suit for anyone touring the east. Fljotdalsherad, Borgarfjord eystri, Vopnafjord, Seydisfjord and Fjardarbyggd are all within reach. Facilities keep to the essentials: showers, toilets, and hot and cold running water.
Book ahead in summer, especially near popular spots. Campsites fill up by late afternoon.
