About

A super-jeep-only alternative route to F35 (Kjölur), defined by two deep, fast river crossings.

This is not a route for a standard highland trip — it's for drivers specifically equipped and experienced for deep water crossings.

It exists as the harder alternative to the Kjölur route (F35) — same general direction, deliberately more demanding crossings.

Both river crossings are noted at 80 cm or more with strong current — deep enough to affect vehicle electronics and float a standard 4x4 off its line. Attempt this only in a genuine super jeep, with an experienced driver, ideally alongside a second vehicle. If you're not certain you meet that bar, take F35 instead.

Reviews

Frequently
asked
questions

What car do I need for F734?
A super jeep — this is rated extreme difficulty and is not passable in a standard rental 4x4.
How deep are the river crossings on F734?
80 cm or more, on record, with strong current. That's deep enough to be genuinely dangerous in the wrong vehicle.
Is F734 an alternative to F35 (Kjölur)?
Yes — it runs the same general direction as Kjölur but with two major river crossings that make it far more demanding.
Should I attempt F734 without experience?
No. This is super-jeep territory with deep, fast river crossings — take F35 instead if you're not experienced with river crossings in a properly equipped vehicle.
Can a standard 4x4 rental use F734?
No. The river crossings here exceed what a standard rental 4x4 is built or insured for, regardless of the vehicle's 4x4 badge.
