Þrastalundur sits on the Golden Circle near Selfoss, with a restaurant a few minutes' walk away. Selfoss is about ten minutes off, Geysir a 45-minute drive, and Reykjavík roughly 50 minutes by car. The site has showers, laundry, hot and cold water, and stays open all year.
Þrastalundur's main selling point is position. It's on the Golden Circle, the loop that links Reykjavík to the southern uplands, so a lot of Iceland's headline stops are within easy reach. Selfoss is about ten minutes away, sitting on the Ölfusá river with a waterfall nearby. Geysir is roughly a 45-minute drive, and Reykjavík around 50 minutes by car. The Þrastalundur restaurant is only a few minutes on foot from the pitches. On site you get electricity, showers, a washing machine and dryer, plus hot and cold water and walking paths. It stays open all year, which makes it a rare option outside the summer season on this stretch of the south.
Book ahead in summer, especially near popular spots. Campsites fill up by late afternoon.
