Hraunborgir is a family campsite in Grímsnes, in the Golden Circle, about an hour from Reykjavík. It has a swimming pool, hot tubs, a sauna, a restaurant, and a bar, and stays open year-round. Þingvellir, Gullfoss, Geysir, and the Kerið crater are all within easy reach.
Hraunborgir puts you in the Golden Circle proper — Grímsnes, about an hour's drive from Reykjavík — with spacious ground for tents, caravans, and motorhomes. That location does a lot of the work: Þingvellir, Gullfoss, Geysir, and the Kerið crater are all short hops away. On site, families are well served. There's a swimming pool, hot tubs, and a sauna, plus a restaurant, a bar, and a TV lounge for when the weather sends everyone indoors. A playground keeps the younger ones busy. Unlike a lot of Icelandic campsites, Hraunborgir stays open all year, with the service centre keeping longer hours over summer. Electricity and EV charging are both available on site.
