About

Húnavellir Campsite lies just off Route 1 in north Iceland, on spacious level grass beside a guesthouse. Its 17-metre outdoor geothermal pool and hot tub face south and catch sun through the day. Kids stay free, and Blönduós is a short drive for supplies. Open May to October.

Húnavellir sits just off Route 1, which makes it a natural break on a Ring Road run through the north. The pitches are level grass with room to spread out, and a guesthouse stands next door. The highlight is the water: a 17-metre outdoor geothermal pool and a hot tub, both south-facing and in the sun all day. Around them are a football field, a smaller pitch, and a playground, plus a newly renovated service house with restrooms, a lounge, and a dishwashing station. There's no fee for children. The site keeps a 15 km/h speed limit to keep things calm for everyone. Blönduós, the nearest town, is a short drive away for groceries, fuel, and food. The season is a long one, May through October.

Camping cards can save you money if you're spending multiple nights in the tent. Do the math.
