Skagaströnd

About

Skagaströnd's campsite is a sheltered, sunny spot with a small mound at its centre where a farm once stood, and low cliffs called Hólaberg blocking the wind from the north and east. The service house has toilets, laundry and dishwashing facilities. Open May to mid-September.

Grab one of the two walking leaflets on your way in — they map out routes up Spákonufellshöfða and the mountain Spákonufell, which are the reason a lot of people stop here. The site is a calm, sheltered place that catches the sun through the day. A grassy mound in the middle marks where an old farm once stood, and the low Hólaberg cliffs shield it from northerly and easterly winds. There's a guest book by the door that visitors are asked to sign. Inside the service house you'll find toilets, a washing machine and space to eat and wash up. A swimming pool, golf course and playground round out what's on offer, and the season runs from May until mid-September.

Wild camping rules have tightened. Use designated campsites to stay on the right side of the law.
