Blönduós

This is a work in progress. The Hnjúkabyggð campsite in Blönduós is running as a temporary site while the area around it is developed, so the facilities are limited for now. The main thing to know: there are no showers on site yet. The town's public swimming pool has good ones, though, and that's where the operators point guests in the meantime. On site you'll find toilets and cold water, and dogs are allowed on a leash. The season is short — open from mid-July to the end of September — and you can book ahead or turn up. It's a straightforward stop rather than a destination, useful when you're moving through the north.

Wild camping rules have tightened. Use designated campsites to stay on the right side of the law.
