Drangsnes is a small village in the Westfjords, near Hólmavík, and its campsite keeps the essentials close. Good toilets and showers, a playground, and a coal barbecue for grilling. A playing field and hot tubs sit nearby, and shops, a swimming pool and a restaurant are all a short walk away. The village works well as a staging post for the drive north to Árneshreppur, roughly 90 kilometres on, and boats can take you across to the island of Grímsey. Groups can rent the community centre, which seats around 120. The site is open from 15 May to 1 December, and children stay free.
Book ahead in summer, especially near popular spots. Campsites fill up by late afternoon.
