Ártún

Ártún runs on flat, well-kept ground with, as the owners put it, almost endless space — handy if you'd rather camp well away from your neighbours. It takes tents, folding campers, caravans, and mobile homes, with showers, indoor dining, electricity, waste disposal, and wireless internet. You can also buy wine and beer here. It's a family site: under-21s need a guardian, and quiet hours run midnight to eight. The setting is walking country. Grenivík, a short way off, has a grocery store, swimming pool, and museum. Trails climb Kaldbakur at 1,167 m, the gentler Þengilhöfði, and Laufáshnjúkur, which opens onto a wide view over Eyjafjörður. Nearby sit the old farm and museum at Laufás, a fishery museum in Grenivík, horse rental at Grýtubakki, and fishing in the Fnjóská and Fjarðará rivers. The site stays open all year.
