About

Mígandifoss is a waterfall in North Iceland.

Mígandi (also called Mígindisfoss) is a waterfall in Eyjafjörður, just south of the Múlagöng tunnels in Ólafsfjarðarmúli. It is not a high-volume waterfall; it lies in a fairly large stream that descends the slope in small cascades before plunging over high cliffs down into the shore, with the sea cliffs and the land above them known as Mígindi (some call them Mígildi and the falls Mígildisfoss). A prominent landmark from both sea and land, it is considered one of the tallest waterfalls in Eyjafjarðarsýsla, standing over 100 m high, and when the wind blows onshore it can gust beneath the falling water and throw it up into the air. Mígandi is mentioned in the Landnámabók (Book of Settlements), though it is unclear whether the name there refers to the waterfall or to the cliffs.
