About

Gjárfoss is a waterfall on the Rauðá river in Iceland's South Coast.

Gjárfoss is one of the waterfalls in the Gjáin area, which contains several other waterfalls, and lies in the south of Iceland (Suðurland). Coming from the northeast, the river Rauða plunges 16 metres over a width of 3 metres. The Gjáin area lies northwest of the Þjórsá and can be reached via the Þjórsárdalsvegur and Stangarvegur roads. The Rauða flows on into the Fossá í Þjórsárdal and then the Þjórsá. Other nearby waterfalls are Háifoss with the Granni, and Hjálparfoss.
