Tröllkonuhlaup

About

Tröllkonuhlaup is a waterfall on the Þjórsá river in Iceland's South Coast.

Tröllkonuhlaup is a low waterfall in the river Þjórsá, just east of Búrfell, in southern Iceland. The higher waterfall Þjófafoss lies somewhat farther to the south. After the Þjórsá was harnessed for hydroelectric power at Búrfell, the water flow into the falls decreased greatly, and it now runs dry in winter. The name, meaning "troll woman's leap," comes from folklore: a troll woman from Búrfell is said to have set rocks in the river so she would not wet her feet when going to visit her sister (at Bjólfell), crossing it in three leaps.
