Esja Upp Ad Stein

Esja upp að stein Hiking trail in Mosfellsbær, Höfuðborgarsvæði (Lýðveldið Ísland). Fun and easy walk with dog and 9yo. Did not go all the way to the top because of the dog since there is a bit of climbing there.

Reykjavegur Trail Part 1 From Nesjavellir Power Station To Road Nr 1

The Reykjavegur trail - part 1 - From Nesjavellir power station to road nr.1 Hiking trail in Hveragerði, Suðurland (Lýðveldið Ísland). The Reykjavegur hiking trail - Part 1 - From Nesjavellir power station to road nr.1 Don't be confused. It"s more an idea then proper marked long distance trail. There is no uniform marks. First you are walking on green trail , after 200m , keep to red trail , after 3 km keep to blue trail . the last 4 km is not marked (asphalt road ) ATTENTION ! in summer 2019 authorities slightly change path so gpx is not correct on approx 1 km

The peeks have great colors (red) and a spectacular view to all directions in good weather.

Reykjadalur Steam Valley Hot River Bathing Graensdalur Loop

Reykjadalur (Steam Valley) - hot river bathing - Grænsdalur loop Hiking trail in Hveragerði, Suðurland (Lýðveldið Ísland). First off, this is an amazing hike just 45min drive from Reykjavik, if you have the time, definitely do it. Start the hike at the Dalakaffi parking spot. I've seen people walk to the warm river in Flip-flops but for this loop you need proper hiking boots(some areas are very muddy, ankle deep). The first part to the bathing area is easy, the ascent to the viewpoint is a bit steep and I was glad I brought my walking poles. Go the same way back to the bathing area but follow a different path to your left up the hill. This is still a marked track, not as well maintained but marked with blue signposts. At some point the marked path goes in a different direction and you have to find your own way along the river back to the parking lot. This is the adventurous bit of the hike. There's a little path used by sheep and some humans but it's not always visible. I was glad I had the track on my gps. At two places you have to cross the river. We managed to cross the river both times without getting wet feet but takes a while to find a good spot to cross. You walk by many mud pools and geotermal spots, some very small holes in the ground that seem to be very hot, so watch were you go. I feel that the 2nd part of the hike is even better than getting from the carpark to the bathing area. The colours of the hills are a bit Landmannalaugar-like + there's a lot of geothermal activity. Just be carefull and don't die ;-) Have fun.

Sel Grensdalur Reykjadalur Sel

Sel-Grensdalur-Reykjadalur-Sel Hiking trail in Hveragerði, Suðurland (Lýðveldið Ísland). This track starts at the school hut of the Junior College in Reykjavík; Menntaskólasetrið. It leads up the valley Grensdalur, where there are numerous hot springs, mud puds and colorful precipitation in the soil. The track is sometimes difficult to follow. In the end of the valley there is a way over a small ridge over to the neighbor valley, Reykjadalur. The two valleys both have beautiful geothermal pools and hot springs. However, whereas Grensdalur is untouched, Reykjadalur has broad marked paths and therefor very accessible. Reykjadalur has become very popular and there are always many people there hiking.

Hengill Sleggjub Skard 2 April 2019

Hengill: Sleggjub. skarð 2. apríl 2019. Hiking trail in Hveragerði, Suðurland (Lýðveldið Ísland). Well marked trail all the way to the top (Skeggi or Vörðuskeggi). Marvelous view all around in good weather as I got. I began walking 15.30 pm and thought I would make it in 4,5 to 5 hours. Had to be back before darkness. I had to turn back close to Skeggi and came back 20.30 and then the sun had gone down. The walking distance to Skeggi and back is about 14 km but my trip was aobout 12 km. The walking conditions were not good for a long period of time because I sank deep in the snow in every step. It was important to wear crampons most of the time. I was alone all the time and enjoyed the quietness, stillness and the great view 100%. But I was a little bit tired in my lower limbs after the trip.

Helgafjordur

Helgafjörður Hiking trail in Hafnarfjörður, Höfuðborgarsvæði (Ísland). To Helgafell and back to Hafnarfjörður. The blue circles: Uppland ring before the lava lakes. The Blue Circle is intended as a full-day hiking trail from the center of Hafnarfjörður, but it can of course be done in shorter stages. The map shows a loop of about 21 km, mostly along ancient paths between lava and cliffs, on the one hand along Selvegsgata in through Setbergshlig and Smyrlabúðarhraun, on the other hand along the edge of Kaldárhraun south of the headlands at Hvaleyrarvatn. The trail is mostly located away from roads, due to its proximity to small villages. As with all loop trails, it can be walked clockwise or counterclockwise. It’s the blue path so follow the path markers with blue on them. Near Helgafell there is a section without path markers but keep the river on your right and walk away from the bridge where you can also refill your water.

The cave is 120 deep and the deepest in the world belvie it or not.

Selfjall Og Sandfell 1 April 2019

Selfjall og Sandfell 1. apríl 2019 Hiking trail in Mosfellsbær, Höfuðborgarsvæði (Lýðveldið Ísland). Nice and easy trail, a few steps from Reykjavik. No problems parking the car. Wonderful valley down beneath Selfjall. Note that this is a winter track in snow. I got good weather in the beginning, sun and good view, especially to Vífilfell, Hengill (Skeggi) and towards Reykjavik. Then I got fog and snowfall when I got to the top at Sandfell. Be careful in the lava between the mountains, at least during winter time.

Esja Thverfellshorn 10 04 2008

Esja - Þverfellshorn, 10.04.2008 Hiking trail in Mosfellsbær, Höfuðborgarsvæði (Ísland). This is probably the most common track to the Esja plateau. It is a fairly easy walk. However from “steinn” to the top the track is rather steep and can be a challenge during wintertime, especially if it is hard snow and icy conditions.

Reykjadalur Hot Spring

Reykjadalur hot spring Hiking trail in Hveragerði, Suðurland (Ísland). The path is clearly marked, it's 3km to the top and 3 to come back. The way up might be challenging, but is worth the effort, The road to come here is very simple, from Reykjavík you take the road nº1 and go to Hveragerði. You go straight throw the city and find the indicativo to Reykjadalur. Here is a parking lot, but just before it you could park beside the road for free if you want.

Esja Thverfellshorn Kerholakambur Thverfell

Esja, Þverfellshorn-Kerhólakambur-Þverfell Hiking trail in Mosfellsbær, Höfuðborgarsvæði (Ísland). This starts off by following the most common track to the Esja plateau. When you have reached the plateau you continue on the plateau to Kerhólakambur. From Kerhólakambur you descend down to Gljúfurdalur before climbing up to Þverfell. After Þverfell it is descend back to where you started off. This is a nice walk especially if the weather is good, because the 360 degree (more or less) view on the Esja plateau is magnificent. It is a bit more challenging than walking Þverfellshorn, but the extra view you get on the plateau compared with Þverfellshorn, does alone make it well worth the extra effort.

Blikdalur-Kambshorn-Esjuberg Hiking trail in Saurbaer, Höfuðborgarsvæði (Lýðveldið Ísland). Blikdalur-Kambshorn-Esjuberg Very nice trail from "behind" up to Kerhólakambur and then down the regular trail towards Esjuberg where we had left one car before the hike.
