Esjuhlíðar sits 3.6 km from Reykjavíkurborg, and 3 km from Route 1. The uploader rated it moderate and it climbs about 109 m. Iceland trails are often unmarked and weather turns quickly. Tell someone your plan (or file one at safetravel.is), carry a charged phone and layers, check the forecast, and turn back if fog, wind or rising rivers set in. Don’t rely on phone signal.

Most Icelandic hiking is a June–September activity, when trails are snow-free and daylight is long. Highland routes open later and close earlier; check road and trail status before committing.
