Selskógur, Skorradal

Water and hills bracket this site. Lake Skorradalsvatn is right across the road, and the mountains behind give you somewhere to walk straight from your tent. The valley setting, wrapped in trees, keeps each pitch fairly sheltered. It runs as a family campsite, so under-20s should have an adult along, and there are quiet hours from midnight to 8am. Traffic inside crawls at 15 km/h and open fires aren't allowed — standard stuff for keeping a wooded site calm. Facilities are simple and cover the basics: hot and cold running water, a shower, a toilet and electricity, with a rubbish skip nearby. The season opens in mid-May and closes in October.
