Set at the head of Önundarfjörður and ringed by high mountains, Korpudalur pairs a campsite with a hostel in a renovated old farmhouse. Open from late May to mid-September. A 15 km mountain trail through Korpudalur runs from the door, and the fjord draws serious birdlife — seabirds, ducks, even eagles.
Korpudalur started life as an old farmhouse and has been renovated into a hostel, with the campsite alongside. It sits at the very head of Önundarfjörður, walled in by high mountains, near Flateyri. Campers get a small hut with two toilets, a shower and a sink for washing up. There's electricity, WiFi, a washing machine and a kitchen, and sleeping-bag accommodation if you'd rather sleep indoors. The area is built for moving around. A 15 km traditional route runs through Korpudalur and over Álftafjarðarheiði, with more climbing and angling on offer nearby. Birdwatchers do well here — thousands of seabirds, ducks, sparrows and the occasional eagle. Over at Ísafjörður and Flateyri you can add swimming, hot pots, kayaking and golf. It runs from 20 May to 15 September.
