A year-round campsite in Þingeyri, in the Westfjords, sitting right beside the town's Sports Centre with its indoor pool, hot tub, sauna and cold plunge. Pitch among sheltering trees or down by the shore, with electricity throughout and a service building opened in 2018.
Þingeyri's campsite stays open all year, which is unusual for the Westfjords. You can pick a sheltered spot in the trees or camp closer to the water and listen to the waves. Electricity runs across the whole site. The big draw is next door: the Þingeyri Sports Centre, with an indoor pool, hot tub, sauna, fitness room and a cold plunge pool. There's a beach volleyball court and an inflatable jumping pillow to wear the kids out. A 9-hole golf course sits about 4 km away, and hiking trails start nearby. The service building, opened in 2018, has roomy showers, toilets and cooking facilities, and it's wheelchair accessible. Drop-ins are welcome. It makes a solid base for exploring this corner of the Westfjords.
