Kiðagil sits well into the Bárðardalur valley, a little over 20 km off the Ring Road, on Route 842 along the west side of the Skjálfandafljót river. A bridge near the site means you can also come in on Route 844 from the east. It's a quiet, countryside stop with the essentials covered: showers, toilets, and electricity, plus a playground and a football field. That mix makes it a common choice for family reunions and group gatherings, and children go free. The setting is the reason to linger — several waterfalls are close, including Goðafoss, Aldeyjarfoss, and the Hrafnabjargafossar, with more hiking through the valley. The season runs through to September, though it depends on the weather.
Book ahead in summer, especially near popular spots. Campsites fill up by late afternoon.
