Húsafell
About
Húsafell is a long-popular campsite set in a summer-cottage area in west Iceland, in the Húsafellsskógur woods. A short walk covers a swimming pool, golf course, playground, shop, and a restaurant with a bar. It's a family-focused, quiet site with around 80 electrical points. Open late May to late September.
Húsafell has been a fixture of Icelandic camping for decades, tucked into the woods of Húsafellsskógur among summer cottages. Most pitches are a short walk from the swimming pool, the playground, the golf course, a shop, and a bistro with a bar, with Hotel Húsafell close by. There's proper infrastructure behind it: around 80 European-style electrical points, plus WCs, showers, a kitchen hut, hot and cold water, and laundry. You can borrow volleyballs, footballs, and basketballs from the Activity Centre. This is run as a family site, and it's kept deliberately calm — quiet hours overnight, a 20 km/h speed limit, and no children or teenagers camping without a responsible adult. The season runs from late May to the end of September.
Wild camping rules have tightened. Use designated campsites to stay on the right side of the law.
