Valgeirsstaðir

Valgeirsstaðir keeps things simple, on flat ground beside a lodge in Norðurfjörður. The toilets are tucked into an old sheepcote next door — not something you see at most campsites. There's a large coal barbecue for guests, along with electricity and waste disposal for motorhomes. A grocery store and swimming pool are both a short distance off, so you're not stranded for supplies. Where this spot earns its keep is the walking. Trails head up nearby mountains like Tafla, Kálfatinda, Munaðarnesfjall and Krossanesfjall, and longer routes reach Ingólfsfjörður fjord and loop around Strútur. The shoreline is worth a wander too. It's a base for walkers in a remote corner of the Westfjords, and it takes drop-ins.
