Stuðlagil Canyon Camping

About

Stuðlagil Canyon Camping sits right at the canyon, with views over it from the site. It's spacious, with toilets, showers, a dishwashing area, cooking facilities and a summer food-and-handcraft stall open through the day. Electricity is available, though not for charging EVs. Open May to October, closed in winter.

The pull is obvious: you camp beside Stuðlagil Canyon, with the canyon itself in view from the site. It's a roomy pitch with toilets, showers and a spot for washing dishes, plus cooking facilities. Through summer a small stall sells food and handcrafts during the day, and the site both sells and accepts the Camping Card. Electricity is there for caravans, though not for charging electric cars. It makes a strong day-trip base, close to the Highlands and a national park. Askja, Mt. Snæfell, Laugavellir and the Karanjukar dam are all reachable, along with the eastern fjords of Vopnafjordur, Seyðisfjordur and Borgarfjordur. Egilsstaðir, the nearest town with full services, is about 70 km away. The season runs May to October.

Book ahead in summer, especially near popular spots. Campsites fill up by late afternoon.
