Stafafell í Lóni
About
Stafafell í Lóni is a quiet campsite close to the Ring Road, about a 25-minute drive from Höfn. It has toilets, showers, cooking facilities, eight electric pitches and Wi-Fi at reception. The Lónsöræfi hiking area is right there, with trails from the site or a short drive to Hvannagil. Open mid-April to October.
Compared with the more basic sites in the area, Stafafell comes better equipped: showers, a proper kitchen, eight marked pitches with electricity, and Wi-Fi at the reception. There's room for tents, campers and caravans. Its position is handy — just off the Ring Road and roughly a 25-minute drive from Höfn — so it works as a calm overnight stop as much as a hiking base. The surrounding Stafafellsfjöll country is well known for its scenery. Walkers can head straight out from the tents on day tours, or drive a little further and begin at Hvannagil. The season is a long one by Icelandic standards, running from mid-April into early October.
Camping cards can save you money if you're spending multiple nights in the tent. Do the math.
