You enter Ólafsvík from Fróðárheiði, and the campsite is right there at the foot of a hillside on the eastern edge of town. In summer the sun holds on that slope all day, with a clear view out over the valley. The service building is a good one — cooking facilities, a sink area, toilets and a shower — and there's electricity, WiFi, waste disposal for motorhomes and a playground. What makes the spot is how easily you can get moving. Walking routes through the valley and Ólafsvík itself begin at the campsite, and there's a disc golf course on hand, with the Ólafsvík forest area a short way off. Shops and services in town are within walking distance. The site opens in mid-April and runs to the end of September, a longer stretch than many.
Wild camping rules have tightened. Use designated campsites to stay on the right side of the law.
