Hellissandur's campsite opened in 2011 on the edge of the village in Snæfellsbær, west Iceland, next door to the Snæfellsjökull National Park visitor centre. Hiking routes and beaches sit close by, with Snæfellsjökull glacier in view. Open mid-April to the end of September.
Opened in 2011, the Hellissandur site sits just outside the village in Snæfellsbær, with the Snæfellsjökull National Park visitor centre right alongside it. The glacier looks down over the area, and the site points guests toward nearby beaches and the sunsets across Breiðafjörður. The service building covers the basics well: cooking facilities, a sink area, toilets, and a shower. There's a playground on site, and a short walk away there's a jumping pillow, a soccer field, a disc-golf course, and the Tröð forestry area. The village's shops and services are close enough to reach on foot. The season is a long one for Iceland, running from mid-April to the end of September.
Book ahead in summer, especially near popular spots. Campsites fill up by late afternoon.
