Hólar í Hjaltadal

Hólar í Hjaltadal carries a lot of history, and the campsite trades on the setting — forest broken into small, sheltered clearings that suit tents and mobile homes, with walking paths threading through. There's a restaurant and a swimming pool on hand, plus toilets with hot and cold water. What you won't find is electricity, and that's on purpose: the site treats the lack of hookups as part of its quiet character. Like the nearby sites at Sauðárkrókur, Hofsós, and Varmahlíð, Hólar runs a shared-ticket deal — a night at one, the next at another, at a reduced rate. The season runs from June to the start of October.
