About
Hofsós campsite sits beside the elementary school in this quiet north Iceland town, sheltered by trees. It's a few minutes' walk from Hofsós's award-winning infinity pool overlooking the fjord. A shared ticket lets you hop between the Sauðárkrókur, Hofsós, and Varmahlíð sites. Open mid-May to the start of October.
A few minutes' walk from the pitches is Hofsós's award-winning infinity pool, which looks out over the fjord and its islands. The campsite itself sits beside the elementary school, sheltered by trees, with electricity, toilets, showers, and hot and cold water. A good day here might run from a soak in the geothermal pool to the emigration centre, then dinner at Retro, a restaurant down in the old town by the sea, and — if the season's right — a long sunset over the fjord. One practical perk: Hofsós shares a ticket scheme with the sites at Sauðárkrókur and Varmahlíð. Stay one night at any of them and the next at another for a discounted rate. Just hang on to your ticket. Open from mid-May.
Book ahead in summer, especially near popular spots. Campsites fill up by late afternoon.
