CampEast - Fáskrúðsfjörður
About
CampEast Fáskrúðsfjörður camps by the estuary just outside town in the East Fjords, in a village with deep French roots — bilingual Icelandic-French street names and an annual French Days festival. Showers, toilets, electric and motorhome waste disposal; the local pool has an indoor pool and outdoor hot tub. Open 10 May to 20 September.
Fáskrúðsfjörður wears its French history openly. The town's ties to France show up in bilingual street signs, restored French buildings finished in 2014 — the old French Hospital among them — and the yearly French Days festival held the weekend before Iceland's Commerce Day holiday. The campsite sits in a calm spot by the estuary, just outside the centre. It offers showers, toilets, electrical hookups and waste disposal for motorhomes and campervans. In summer a tourist-information point runs from the Kolfreyja Gallery. The village pool is worth a stop, with a cosy indoor pool and an outdoor hot tub. It all makes a good base for the East Fjords, with a bit of Franco-Icelandic history thrown in. Open 10 May to 20 September; drop-in or booked.
Wild camping rules have tightened. Use designated campsites to stay on the right side of the law.
