Dalbær Snæfjallaströnd
About
Dalbær overlooks the Drangajökull glacier from the Snæfjallaströnd coast, in the Westfjords. It pairs a campsite with indoor accommodation and food service, in one of Iceland's more remote corners. The campsite opens from mid-June to the end of August, and a solar eclipse celebration is planned for 12 August.
Dalbær looks out over Drangajökull glacier from the Snæfjallaströnd coast, deep in the Westfjords and well off the main routes. It's a quiet base for hiking and for taking in one of Iceland's remoter stretches of countryside. There's more than just camping. Indoor options range from a sleeping loft for eight to a main hall sleeping ten, mattress space, and a single private room with a double bed; linen can be rented. Food service runs on selected June weekends and then daily from mid-July to mid-August, and the kitchen is open outside restaurant hours, with cold storage for your own supplies. The campsite itself opens from 17 June to 31 August. A couple of events punctuate the summer — a family festival over the Commerce Day weekend and a solar eclipse celebration on 12 August — so it's worth booking ahead for those dates.
Camping cards can save you money if you're spending multiple nights in the tent. Do the math.
