Borgarnes
About
Granastaðir Campsite stands on Borgarbraut in Borgarnes, just off Route 1, looking out over Borgarfjörður. It's within walking distance of the town's shops, restaurants, pool, and golf course, and makes a solid base for Snæfellsnes and West Iceland. Open mid-May to mid-September; children stay free.
Location does the work at Granastaðir. The campsite sits on Borgarbraut in Borgarnes, right off the Ring Road, with green hills around and Borgarfjörður in view. It makes an easy base for the Snæfellsnes Peninsula and the wider region. Almost everything is walkable from here — grocery stores, cafés and restaurants, fuel, a swimming pool, a golf course, a bank and post office, playgrounds, and sports pitches. On site you'll find toilets, electrical hookups, showers, WiFi, and a barbecue. It's a family site, with a minimum age of 20 for anyone camping without a guardian, and children stay free. The season runs from mid-May to mid-September, and larger groups can contact the operators for a deal.
Book ahead in summer, especially near popular spots. Campsites fill up by late afternoon.
