Stand close enough and you'll feel the spray on your face. There's something primal about waterfalls - they demand your attention.
Fed by glacier melt and rainfall, this waterfall has been carving its path for thousands of years. The cliffs here were once Iceland's coastline before the land rose from the sea.
Most waterfalls don't have entrance fees, but parking often costs 700-1000 ISK. Keep coins handy or download the Parka app.

The walk- 5 km (Ástarbrautin / Love Path trail to the mountain top and lake Systravatn)
Fed by the lake Systravatn at the top of the mountain- Ástarbrautin (the Love Path) hiking trail runs 5 km up to the mountain top and Systravatn; a separate circular forest path (Skógarstígurinn) has marked stops
- Rock Fossasteinn at the falls fell during a thunderstorm in 1830
- Adjacent forest planted in 1945 contains a spruce nearly 30 m tall, Iceland's tallest tree
