Fagrifoss is an 80-meter waterfall on the Geirlandsá river in Iceland's South Coast.

The sound of falling water fills the air. Mist catches the light. This is Iceland at its most elemental.

It is almost on the road leading to Lakagígar craters on road F206. 24 km (15 mi) from Kirkjubæjarklaustur and 40 km (25 mi) from Laki. Access to the waterfall requires the crossing of a river ford, for which a 4x4 vehicle is needed.

Come early morning or late evening to avoid crowds. The light's better for photos anyway. Bring layers - waterfall spray plus Icelandic wind equals cold.
