Tindfjallajökull is a glacier in the south of Iceland whose name is also given to the underlying stratovolcano. Tindfjöll is a ridge that extends to the south of the glacier and is an alternative name for the volcano.
The landscape around volcanic areas looks stark. Black rock, steam vents, the smell of sulfur. Another planet.
The terrain can be sharp and uneven. Good hiking boots aren't optional, they're essential.
