How do I get to Fontur?
Fontur is in East Iceland. Check live road conditions on this page before you drive — some coastal cliffs sit at the end of gravel tracks, and conditions change fast in Iceland.
Is Fontur safe to visit?
Treat any Icelandic cliff with care. Edges are often undercut by the sea or weather and can collapse without warning, and coastal wind can gust hard enough to knock you over. Stay well back from the rim at Fontur, keep to marked paths, and mind children and pets.
Can I see seabirds at Fontur?
Many Icelandic sea cliffs host seabird colonies — puffins, fulmars and kittiwakes — mostly from roughly May to August. Watch from a safe distance behind the edge; nesting birds and crumbling turf make the very rim of Fontur hazardous.
When is the best time to visit Fontur?
Most cliffs are visitable year-round, though winter access depends on road and weather conditions and daylight is short. Summer brings the longest daylight and, at coastal cliffs, the seabird season. Check live road conditions before you drive.
