Laugargerðisskóli

Laugargerðisskóli runs as a campsite through the summer, based at the school of the same name in Snæfellsnes, near the long Löngufjörur beach. It's set up for individuals, families and larger groups, and has been a popular choice for family reunions. Its position is the practical strength: it sits central to the whole west — Borgarfjörður, Snæfellsnes and Dalir all fan out from here. On site there's a soccer field and a playground for younger campers. The area around gives you plenty to aim for. Within reach are hot springs, caves, lakes you can fish, a seal colony, a mineral spring, and what's described as the country's widest columnar basalt wall. It's a straightforward base for covering this corner of Iceland rather than a facilities-heavy stop.
